[Workrave-user] How to setup network preferences

My most-used desktop is running

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.1 (Santiago)

workrave-1.9.4-2.el6.nux.x86_64 on Linux garfield 2.6.32-131.12.1.el6.x86_64

This box - garfield - is always on and is mine to config as I like. (No firewalls)

I would like to also track my time on a windows laptop. The laptop is turned on and off as I take to and from home/work. It's windows 7 enterprise 64 bit and running workrave 1.10

I read through the mail list and saw something about having to set up the network each time you boot. I am prepared to do this if I just knew what sequence works.

Do I need to make a user & pass ? Does it work without?

Do I need to allow incoming connection on both boxes? The windows is the "work" controlled machine and I don't do windows, so that one would be easier if I did not need incoming connections.

When the laptop is home, it can see garfield via VPN, but I doubt garfield can see it - is this a show stopper?

What is the expected behaviour? If I work on garfield for an hour and then turn on windows - will the windows show I have worked an hour?

If my total allowed time is 4hours per day - do I set 4hours on both the linux and the windows? Will that allow me 4 hours total vs 4hours on each box?

I have been using workrave for a long time and it has been very useful. But I really need to be able to track all my time.

I have contemplated reading the code, but I really hope somebody here can give me some idea of how the pieces interact, so I can config it usefully :)

Thanks much

I will put my working config here - as I would love to have found such info in my previous search.

I setup both linux & window the same as far as breaks, timers and total time goes.

I allowed incoming connections on both and

on garfield (linux) added, under network on the hosts tab - the win7 box

on win7 under network - garfield

There is probably something about starting order, but I have not figured it out. At the moment I just shutdown both and startup one by one till it works.

I now know "working" is - the little applet updates pretty much in unison between the two boxes, and when a break appears on one box, it also appears on the other. I can actually see both screens at the same time.

So while at work - on the same network, with boxes next to each other - it works nicely.

I am sending a separate email - for my new issue ... trying to get three boxes to work together.

I forgot to say - I made a user/pass on both boxes and they are the exact same. I have not tried without, so I am not sure if this is required.

I have not been able to take the laptop home and have it play nice. But the whole VPN thing makes it quite a different network config to navigate.
